Forty-three part-time contract workers on the YouTube Music team were given layoff notices last Friday. They had been fighting for better pay and benefits for a year. The fired workers were employed by both Google and its subcontractor Cognizant. Google is claiming that it is not responsible for the layoffs and that Cognizant is. "Contracts with national contractors regularly expire with end dates," a Google spokesperson said in an emailed statement, adding that Cognizant "terminated the contract naturally."
